What We Do
The project assumes improving knowledge and skills of two groups: the staff in senior organizations and, through them, the seniors themselves.
Health literacy is the ability to understand health-related information such as health risks, treatment options and, most importantly, the significance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Research shows that health literacy in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia (4 Visegrad countries) is very low. Citizens with a lower understanding of this issue are more likely to develop serious health issues such as chronic illnesses and get hospitalized. Furthermore, health illiteracy and the constant aging of our populations will only increase the pressure on our national healthcare systems. Therefore, INHEAL, a project focussing on elderly education, wishes to improve their understanding of the risks they face
For this reason, experts in INHEAL created an innovative health-improving literacy methodology with practices, instruments and instructions specifically adapted for teaching older adults. Based on cross-country analyses, this methodology identified the best methods inform them about medical prescriptions, doctors’ recommendations, and teach them of being capable of protecting and safeguarding their health. As it might not be the easiest task to gather the targeted senior population and overcome their potential reluctance, INHEAL aims to enable and work alongside organizations collaborating with elderly people in all V4 countries, to apply its methodology and overcome any hesitance towards this new approach. Caregivers will become intermediaries in the elderlies’ pursuit of well-being.
We encourage organizations assisting elderly people to cooperate with each other by participating in seminars and workshops, during which they can learn how to inform the target group about INHEAL’s methodology, recommendations and techniques, and how to apply it to their organizations structure and personnel.
